Whether you agree or not, Casa Manana is a Lake Charles staple. I've been eating here since I was two, and Mr. Martel would come around and give bubble gum to the one's that finished their meal. Those days are gone, but the food has maintained it's appeal. Having traveled a bit, I can agree that it isn't the most authentic Mexican food, but for my taste, it is always an enjoyable meal. I usually order the fajitas and although I have had better elsewhere, the flavor is there and they never completely disappoint. Waitstaff is good also. Some people may disagree, but since I grew up on it, there are only two types of salsa I enjoy, Casa's and salsa prepared fresh from recipe. Casa salsa is the only salsa I will buy in a store, never Pace. Casa Manana is still family owned and they have opened another restaurant across town on Nelson called "Que Pasa Taqueria" which offers a slight difference in taste and menu selection. If you spend any amount of time at all in Lake Charles, you are liable to end up eating here, so try it for yourself and see.

Ate here tonight to try the $2. Tuesday menu- tacos, enchiladas, chalupas, rice & beans- and margaritas all $2. each. Everything was excellent. Food was great, service was great- thank you Shayna, who took quick care of us so we could catch a movie! Definitely will be back next Tuesday!

Love this place, the food is always good. Try the quesadillas they have bacon in them making them different from others. The drinks are strong and the service is always good. Queso al lapri is also a great dish that other do not serve. Try them both.

Great place for a good meal. The chips could be a bit warmer, but the chicken enchiladas especial with verde sauce were amazing!

Why so busy here? Your food is tasteless. Queso, plain. Salsa is ketchup. Chips are plain. Home made tortillas are too thick. Few shrimp on quesadillas. Paid for onions, got one onion piece on each slice. Food was cold when served. Wife's food made wrong from her order. She said no onions on flour tortillas. Had onions on corn tortillas. Why? Can't the cook read? Owners should try eating here. It's time for an upgrade. 38 years of this? Really? You have a captive audience I guess. We won't be back.

When was the last time you've eaten at a Mexican Restaurant that has been operating in the same location continuously for 38 Years? You can not accomplish this feat unless you are doing something right. This could be one of the best Mexican restaurants you'll ever visit sure it's not authentic Mexican fare so don't confuse the two but I've eaten here from day one and it's an iconic fixture in Lake Charles and earns a right to be recognized along side of other iconic restaurants in the area because fortunately there are a number of restaurants that reaches this level of greatness in this area and for a town this size it's extremely rare. Give them a try for a no risk option for a great meal.

If I could rate negative stars I would. Made a to go order; it was completely wrong and COLD. Their tortillas are made there, however, they are doughy and thick. Their salsa is a generic canned brand and it was the only good tasting item in my order

Wow. Beware anyone looking for Mexican food in Lake Charles. I should have known the food would be horrible just by the smell of the restaurant and the salsa that tastes like ketchup.

Their hamburgers are delicious!! Chargrilled to perfection. Soft toasted bun with all the fixings. Although casa is a texmex restaurant, it is my go-to, for home made burgers!!

  • Darrell M.

They have okay food. The service was lacking. We constantly had to ask for refills from other wait staff. If you want good food, then go to Coyote Blues. There is a reason they have won awards.

I'm not the biggest fan of this restaurant. The menu has options but it's the same old song and dance that you get at any other generic texmex restaurant. It's always crowded there and the food is bland as well. It's not the place I would choose to go to eat at. It's not that it is bad but it's not great either.

Service at Casa Mañana was superb. The waiter was funny and attenative. The menu could be better. Mostly just the basics with a couple unique items like the Queso Puff and the Pollo Y Camaron plate with mexican potatoes. Prices are great. 2 of us dined with margaritas and an appetizer for $50. Food was tasty. I had the shrimp tacos. The shrimp were very flavorful (must have been marinated) and the roasted corn and black bean salsa was a nice touch. The tortilla soup is nothing like any tortilla soup I've ever eaten. It was more of a beef stew than anything. Don't get me wrong, it was very good, just not what I was expecting. I would recommend this place if you are in the area.

I don't normally associate Lake Charles with Mexican food. Hell, I don't normally associate Lake Charles with anything, really, other than it being a city on my way to Houston with a scary bridge in the middle of it. Anyway, on this day, a coworker and I were passing through (on the way from Texas, GO FIGURE) and we decided to stop into Casa Manana after a client suggested it. It was 1:30 on a Tuesday so there were very few people around, but the service never suffered. Our waitress has been there for something like 10 years and you could tell she absolutely loves what she does. She helped us with selecting what we wanted for lunch and I'm so glad she did. We went with the Shrimp Tacos and the Beef/Chicken Quesadilla and OH MY GOD that quesadilla, y'all. I would petition for the mandatory addition of bacon and chives to ALL quesadillas served in a Mexican restaurant, based on this dish alone. It just completely changes your idea of what a quesadilla in a Mexican restaurant is supposed to taste like and my coworker and I STILL rave about this damn quesadilla to anyone we meet that even whispers Lake Charles. I can't even really explain why it made it so much better, other than to say that bacon makes everything better, which most people know to be true. Even though I spent a paragraph raving on the Quesadilla, the Shrimp Tacos were really good too and definitely worth trying. Long and short of it, go to Casa Manana, get the quesadillas and a margarita (because they're supposed to be legendary as well). You're welcome.

Often service is slow and usually friendly (really depends on when you go), chips, salsa, & drinks are usually fast, food usually takes quite awhile, decently clean facilities, some exceptional food items (firecracker quesadillas are different with sausage & the "traditional" chicken quesadillas are made excellent with chives & bacon). I think they have the best refried beans in the LC area while the fake plastic-like cheese whiz type of queso is seriously lacking. Decent margaritas and very good red salsa. Be prepared to have a LONG wait on a weekend, especially after 6pm- you can tell when the lot is packed full. And it's always really loud inside (maybe not during a weekday lunch). Been coming here for years and now there are better choices in the area, so unless I'm craving some of their special quesadillas then I go elsewhere...sure do miss some of the awesome Tex-Mex in Houston.

    (3)
  • Edna L.

I don't get it either. I only go here when my co-workers want to. The food is average and there's no way I'd pay more than the lunch special for their food.

    (2)
  • Denise H.

This is definitely NOT a place I would recommend to anyone. The food here is just lacking in taste, freshness, or originality. Their menu is just like you see in any other Mexican restaurants only it all tastes microwaved or out of a Sam's frozen bag. The only good thing this place has going for it is the fact that it's been around a while and people have settled for this quality of "Mexican" food.

    (1)
  • D M.

Frozen margaritas prob best in town. Food VERY mediocre.

    (3)
  • D T.

Food was pretty good. I don't like cold chips that are already on the table. Chips were much better brought to the table warm & fresh. Fajita nachos were good but had to pay extra for quacamole. Cheese puff is good!

    (4)
  • Dr.Carlos H.

Best Margaritas in town and prices in town. Food is pretty awesome also.

    (5)
  • Brooke M.

Not impressed. Queso tasted like melted velveeta, salsa looked like Pace picante and tasted as such. Had the chimichanga and was very disappointed. We had many people tell us this place was great, not sure what they are eating there but we won't be going back.

    (2)
  • Matthew H.

Not bad, and probably could have been really, really bad. The food here is as authentically Mexican, as it is healthy (which is to say it is neither authentic nor healthy). Nonetheless, if you are looking for a burrito fix - this is about 100% better than Taco Bell. I tried the Burrito and the Enchilada. Essentially, the only difference between the two that I could distinguish is that the burrito is about twice the size of the enchilada and contains 1/2 refried beans and 1/2 beef, whereas the Enchilada contained only beef. I'm happy to agree with the previous reviewer: the chips and salsa were quite good.

    (3)
  • Missy R.

I have eaten here many times in the 30+ years I have lived here. As a kid I did not know any better, now I do. The Salsa and chips you get at the beginning of the meal, the cheese dip (yum) and the Margaritas are the only thing I really care to eat from there anymore. I really dont understand why that place is so full that you can barely find a parking space. Must be the drinks *chuckle* They have a to-go window now in the back, that makes things a little easier than going inside to pick things up in the past.

    (2)
  • Alan Y.

The food taste good, but gives the impression the food is made off site and warmed in a microwave... Great wait staff.

    (2)
  • Joshua F.

Totally dont get the lake charles obsession with casa??? Tex mex is the easiest food to make already.. why microwave everything? All that said, someones gonna get you there at some point so order the "portobello cameron" its good.. and the margaritas aint bad :)

  • Jason P.

Oh Lord, we're not in Texas anymore. I wondered about the quality of the food in this spot when I realized that there wasn't a single Mexican (that I could see) working there on a busy Saturday lunch rush (kitchen included). I'm far from a Tex-Mex snob. I eat at Taco Bell at least twice a week. But I also enjoy higher end TexMex from spots like Los Cucos and Pappasitos. I don't expect authentic TexMex cuisine from a restaurant in upstate New York. And I don't pretend that I'm going to easily find great Cajun food when I'm in California. But come on, this spot it 30 miles from the Texas border. Can it really be THAT far removed?? The chips and salsa were acceptable, but the green sauce was the worst I've ever had; anywhere. It was terrible. Green sauce has to be pretty f*cken bad for me to leave it alone and opt for the red sauce. When my girlfriend and I ordered a "double" order of fajitas, they brought out what looked like fajitas for one. I honestly thought they'd made a mistake. I politely told the food runner, "No, we ordered the $24 one, not the $12 one." My girlfriend then leaned over and whispered in my ear "babe, I think that's what you get here for a double order. We're not in Texas." What??!! Barely any meat! And SMOTHERED in onions! I know times are tough, but what a rip off! I was taken aback. But maybe that's how they do things out this way. I will say though, the beef fajitas were very good (but still not worth the money.) The tortillas were also good but the rice and beans were so so. Maybe this is the best TexMex joint in this part of Louisiana, I don't know. I would stick to the enchiladas here because they actually looked very good. The servers were friendly and attentive and there were no issues there, but they're friendly at Taco Bell too.

  • Jeff L.

I've grown up eating at Casa Manana and it has stayed consistent throughout the years. Always great margaritas, chips and salsa. Try out their fried pickles and steak fajitas.Deliciousness! Great staff! Only tip to the management would be to take out the carpet ;)

    (5)
  • Philip L.

It's a Lake Charles institution, so I can't hate on it too much. The food really isn't that bad; I'm just not a fan of Tex-Mex. My favorites are the grilled shrimp tacos, portobello cameron, and the pollo y cameron. The salsa has taken a turn for the worst, but the queso dip is still good. I really like the addition of the white queso dip and the tomatillo sauce. If for nothing else, it's always a good place to have a party.

    (3)
  • Mary B.

Good food, not authentic Mexican. But TexMex, yes. Good wait staff. Being raised in Phoenix I have had some of the best, this is good, and enjoyable. If you want authentic Mexican, go to Mexico, otherwise, good food, good price, good service is here.

    (4)
  • Gill M.

A very poor excuse for a Mexican place and contrary to the other review the salsa was horrible! It tasted more like tomato soup than salsa and several people at the table commented that it just needed a side of a grilled cheese and it would have been perfect. If you're looking for authentic Mexican food you'd be better off at Taco Bell. The only plus was the service.

    (1)
  • Bobby C.

i like the food there. Went there recently. I would like to hear more Steel Panther in the music selection. That's my only real concern.

    (5)
  • Laura B.

Casa Manana is a staple for every Lake Charles native. I moved away ten years ago but still have my grandmother ship me their salsa (You can buy it at market basket.) This is one of the places I look forward to visiting most when I visit Lake Charles. The food is good and the SALSA is amazing.

    (4)
  • Francis P.

This place is awesome. Never gotten anything bad. Best salsa around period.

    (5)
  • Jobby J.

Very sad excuse for Mexican food. As other reviewers have stated, the salsa is horrible and tastes like tomato soup, the cheese on the nachos is like cheese whiz and the chili was cafeteria grade. If you absolutely need Mexican food, look elsewhere, or try some other type of cuisine.

    (2)
  • T S.

Had to be just about the worst Mexican food I have ever had. The queso take like it is made from powdered cheese, the salsa taste like ketchup mixed with Pace picante sauce even though I was told it was homemade when I asked. The brisket tacos and shrimp quesadillas were not good at all.

    (1)
  • Jeremy W.

I just don't get it. This place is always crowded. The service is always slow. The food is always bad. Casa Manana is like the Chef Boyardee version of Mexican food. I've got nothing against unauthentic Mexican food. I'm a big fan of Americanized Tex-Mex. I wouldn't know real Mexican food if it hit me in the face. My problem is not that the food here isn't authentic. It's that it tastes bad. Bland. Cheaply-made and poorly executed, like canned ravioli. ...the kind of stuff I wouldn't be thrilled about getting at a drive-through window, and I definitely don't want to wait an hour at a table for.

    (2)
  • Chad C.

Quality has gone way down over the years. Still a place full of memories but as the quality goes down the price continues to rise. Definitely not worth the price. I will probably still come here each time I visit but I wish management would kick it into gear and bring back the old casa where the food is fresh

    (2)
  • David B.

The is a great place with lots if space inside and fairly we'll done rustic decor. The fajitas we had were very good, properly seasoned and made with high quality beef. Everything seemed fresh except for some if the tortilla chips. Even though it was a busy Friday night, the service was prompt and we were well attended to. The clientele was having a good time but well behaved. The parking area is fairly large but it looks like they could use more; arguably that's a good sign. I'm from out if town but I would like to come back the next tme I'm in Lake Charles.

Look, I lived in Houston for 10 years. Casa Mañana is simply the best Mexican restaurant in Lake Charles. Their enchiladas and queso and queso puff and margaritas and strawberry margaritas.....so great. Service is always good and prices are reasonable. I love this place!!

    (5)
  • Tara K.

Best margaritas around!! As far as food, firecrackers are the best thing on the menu. Food isn't really impressive but gotta go every Thursday night for half off margaritas!! Frozen strawberry is the best! Oh and there is usually a 5-15 minute wait .

I've grown up eating at Casa Manana and it has stayed consistent throughout the years. Always great margaritas, chips and salsa. Try out their fried pickles and steak fajitas.Deliciousness! Great staff! Only tip to the management would be to take out the carpet ;)

Good food, not authentic Mexican. But TexMex, yes. Good wait staff. Being raised in Phoenix I have had some of the best, this is good, and enjoyable. If you want authentic Mexican, go to Mexico, otherwise, good food, good price, good service is here.

The only plus was the service.

i like the food there. Went there recently. I would like to hear more Steel Panther in the music selection. That's my only real concern.

Casa Manana is a staple for every Lake Charles native. I moved away ten years ago but still have my grandmother ship me their salsa (You can buy it at market basket.) This is one of the places I look forward to visiting most when I visit Lake Charles. The food is good and the SALSA is amazing.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
